Funerals

The loss of a loved one

When families are struggling with the loss of a loved one they are looking for the compassionate, caring presence of God as evidenced by the church.  The White Robed Monks of St. Benedict, an independent (non-roman) Catholic jurisdiction is a Catholic community, dedicated to making the world a more compassionate place.  Being present and offering Christ’s loving compassion is what we offer.

Many times, families are not members of a local parish, but still seek comfort in their grief.  Catholics in particular want a priest to be there for them and we offer that option.

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the White Robed Benedictines and our funeral services.

Neither our loved one nor we have been to church for years.  Is that a problem?

Of course NOT, We believe that every one is entitled to a Christian burial, if one so desired. We leave the judging where it belongs, in God’s forgiving hands.

Are there any restrictions?

No, we do not believe in restrictions, only possibilities.

Where can the services be held?

We do not maintain any physical buildings. We are welcome where ever visiting clergy is welcome. The funeral home, cemetery or crematorium also have facilities available for your use. Funeral services can also be held from home and then proceed to cemetery for burial or crematorium for cremation.

What will the funeral, cremation or memorial service look like?

It will be what you want it to be. We can celebrate a full funeral Mass, wake service, cemetery or grave side service or a service at a crematorium chapel. We do share rituals and liturgies with the Roman church so it can look like what some people might expect.

What is the charge for the WRB funeral services?

We do not, on principle, charge for our services. We do accept free will donations. Frequently, your funeral director will add a modest honorarium to his invoice for our charities. We do not deny our services to anyone in financial distress.

What must I do to have a WRB priest conduct our loved one’s funeral?

Simply have your funeral director, or you, telephone us at 076 604 5582. We usually have someone available on short notice.
